This is the beginning of a new series I am starting using collage and carbon ink and sketching with a pointed kabob stick.  You get lots of variation in the lines of the sketch.  The collage is done with rice paper, tyvek paper, gesso which I stamp into for different textures and then acrylic paints. Most of the images will be done on 6" x 6" watercolor paper and then mounted on boards for hanging when I get to Houston.

JUNKANOO BOY

Its a gray and gloomy day on the island so I decided to brighten things up a little with this painting of a young boy in the Junkanoo  parade held here on New Years.

Well, I'm off on a new tangent.  Have been having fun working with adding glass collage to my paintings.  I am getting a few things done to have in the gallery for the Christmas season and will be going to Houston in a couple of weeks and then driving out to Virginia with a little sight-seeing along the way.  Have so far escaped any storms on the island but it is very quiet here so looking forward to my trip.  Will try to post any more things I get completed before I go.

This is another painting done plein-aire in Creede during the Stephen Quiller workshop.  He took us up to an area on the edge of the burn from the fires this summer.

Creede Trip

ABOVE CREEDE

I have just returned from a trip to Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado.  I took a week long plein air workshop in Creede, Colorado with Stephen Quiller.  The painting above is one that I started in the workshop and finished in my studio.  Have several more to finish and will post when done.  My daughter Kelly and I traveled together and had a great time painting, sketching and picking up rocks.  Also, huffing and puffing in the high altitudes!

Lady in White

Been busy getting ready to go to Creede, Co. for a workshop with Stephen Quiller and doing lots of studies from his new DVD series on color so haven't done many finished paintings.  This is an 18 x 24 on canvas board that I started some time ago and have worked on and on and on but think I am now finished....haven't signed it yet.  Here's hoping that the fires are out by the time I get to Creede in August.

NO EXCUSES

As you can see, I am all over the board with my work lately.  Been doing lots of work on my home getting it ready to sell so not painting as much as I should.  I am going to a Stephen Quiller workshop in Creede, Co. in August and really excited about it, so you may see lots of mountains when I return.  Until then I am going to do lots of location paintings here on the island and will try to post more often than I have been.

Had a busy month with company and lots of little jobs to be done with the house but did get to paint some after the inspiring workshop with Walt Bartman.  These are all paintings at least started on location and finished in the studio.  Heavy winds and rain have kept me in but weather looking better now.

These are plein air paintings I did in Walt Bartman's workshop he did for three days on Green Turtle Cay.  It was wonderful...lots of hard work but well worth it.  Hopefully, next year he will do a five day workshop.  Anyone interested please feel free to contact him at

Yellow Barn Studios or send me a note.

These are all paintings done in. or started in Mary Willbanks workshop at Springmaid in November.

I spent 3 weeks there with 3 different artists and came away exhausted but inspired.

Just returned from Houston where I spent Christmas with my daughter  which was great fun but very cold.  When you are used to living in the tropics the blood gets thin!

Now I am getting ready to take a plein aire workshop here on Green Turtle Cay with  Walt Bartman the end of this month.  Seems like I am doing lots of workshops the last few months but it really feels great to be around other artists and "talk shop"
